On Ancestors
"By experience, I find it an easy matter to attract the attention of almost everybody, be they ever so phlegmatic, when approaching them on the subject of their ancestry. It is a peculiarity of the human race to cherish and more or less respect and honor those from whom we have descended. Especially is this true if we are able to trace our lineage in the line of some distinguished personage whose deeds and talents have figured largely upon the records of time. As far as the writer is informed, we have no knowledge of any reproachful character in the line of our ancestors, rather the contrary"
